MacOS - How To Add a New Worker

Overview

This guide walks through the process of connecting a new worker device to the io.net platform using MAC devices.

1️⃣ System Requirements

  • Only supports Apple Silicon processors (M1, M2, and M3)
  • Check processor: Apple menu > About This Mac > Look for "Chip"
  • Minimum 60GB free space for images and container installation
  • Docker Desktop for MacOS required

Note: Ensure your Mac has Apple Silicon CPU (M1 or higher) before proceeding

Note: Adding new workers to the IO network is currently disabled. Please continue to check our Discord announcements channel for details on when new workers can be added.

2️⃣ Account Creation & Navigation

  • Visit cloud.io.net
  • Sign up using X (Twitter), Apple ID, or Google
  • Navigate to IO Elements dashboard
  • Click on IO Worker section
  • Use "Connect New Worker" button (central or upper right corner)

3️⃣ Device Configuration: Customize your worker settings

  • Click "Pencil" icon to name device (format: My-Test-Device)
  • Select MacOS as Operating System
  • Install Docker Desktop for MacOS from official website

Info: Configure Docker resources properly - default or low RAM settings (8GB or lower) will affect PoW verification

4️⃣ IO Binary Installation: Open Terminal and execute commands to download and run the binary.

  • Download the binary:-
curl -L https://github.com/ionet-official/io_launch_binaries/raw/main/io_net_launch_binary_mac -o io_net_launch_binary_mac
  • Grant permissions:-
chmod +x io_net_launch_binary_mac
  • Run the binary:-
./io_net_launch_binary_mac

5️⃣ Device Authorization Process

6️⃣ Final Setup Steps

  • Type "Yes" to remove previous Docker containers
  • Wait for Docker installation (20GB container size)
  • Return to browser interface
  • Allow up to 10 minutes for connection
  • Disable power-saving mode
  • Monitor worker status on Workers page

 Troubleshooting

1. If authorization times out: Rerun binary command
2. Connection issues: Check MacOS Worker troubleshooting guide
3. Resource issues: Verify Docker resource allocation
