On Windows 10/11
1️⃣ Open Network Settings
Press
Windows + R.
Add the below command in your command prompt:
ncpa.cpl
- Press Enter.
This will open the Network Connections window.
2️⃣ Right-click on Active Network Adapter
Right-click on your active Ethernet or Wi-Fi adapter
Select “Properties”.
3️⃣ Disable IPv6
In the Networking tab, scroll down and uncheck the box next to:
"Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)"Click OK to save the changes.
IPv6 is now disabled on your Windows system.
On macOS
1️⃣ Open System Settings
Go to Apple Menu → System Settings (or "System Preferences" on older macOS versions).
Select “Network” from the sidebar.
2️⃣ Choose Your Network Interface
Click on Wi-Fi or Ethernet (whichever you are using).
Then click “Details…” or the Advanced button.
3️⃣ Go to TCP/IP Tab
Navigate to the TCP/IP tab.
Under Configure IPv6, select:
“Link-local only” or “Off” (if available).
Click OK and then Apply to save changes.
IPv6 is now limited or disabled on macOS.
Notes
- On macOS, fully disabling IPv6 via the UI may not be possible in all versions. In such cases, you can use the terminal with
networksetup
commands. - Disabling IPv6 may affect some services. Make sure you test your network applications afterward.
